A free undergraduate textbook on quantum theory, suitable for a first course.
Fundamentals of Quantum Theory is an ongoing project to write a book for a first undergraduate course in quantum theory guided by the following principles:
-
This book will be accessible for free: `omnia sunt communia’, especially knowledge.
-
This book does not shy away from the conceptual challenges from the get-go, without being overly technical.
-
This book has a focus on theoretical aspects, without being overly mathematical.
-
This book presents the general structure of quantum physics, without getting boggled-down in the details of applications that require years to master (you’ll specialize later).
-
This book invites you to question, not to accept received authority.
-
We believe students should be encouraged to study quantum theory from a myriad of perspectives - no single resource is perfect for every student, including this one. We are trying to write a book we would have liked to read as undergrads.
-
The book is very much a work in progress, and your feedback as a student or a teacher (at any level of detail) will be crucial for improving it. We thank very much all those who will take the time to write to us at fundamentalsofquantumtheory@protonmail.com
